Peter von Danzig (Germany) edges back ahead to gain a two-mile lead over Rona II (UK) at the front of the fleet, as the British vessel sails further offshore to try to place herself in a stronger tactical position in the final stages of Race 1…
If the weather forecast holds true, then the 20-metre British ketch should be able to take advantage of the stronger winds and faster sailing angle over her German rival as they close the finish line, which is around 100 miles away. These two vessels could arrive into Sines, Portugal, early tomorrow (Tuesday 25 April) morning.
Wylde Swan (The Netherlands) is leading the Class A and B fleet, just 15 miles behind the potentially much faster modern yachts. Fifty miles behind her is the Class B pilot cutter Jolie Brise (UK), which is trying to hold off the French naval yacht Hosanna, although the gap is closing in the light winds.
We’re looking forward to an exciting finish as vessels approach the line in Sines, Portugal.
