Race Report 10: Final Race Leg of The Tall Ships Races 2016

Posted on: 01.08.16

The fleet of The Tall Ships Races 2016 said farewell to Cadiz yesterday with a dramatic Parade of Sail seen by thousands of onlookers lining the beaches. Early estimates of visitor figures at the event indicate 1.3 million people enjoyed the festivities.

The fleet then got Race Three of The Tall Ships Races 2016 off to a good start off Cadiz yesterday evening (Sunday 31 July), with a moderate north-westerly wind, which provided some tactical challenges during the first night of racing.

Spaniel (Latvia) gained by tacking back to the north early and is now lying at the head of the fleet. Fryderyk Chopin (Poland) also benefitted by taking a more northerly route overnight and is in first place on corrected time.
Paul Bishop, Race Director, Sail Training International said, “The winds are forecast to become light and variable today, which is likely to slow the fleet’s progress as they head towards the finish line off Ponta de Sagres.”
