Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta Race 2, Report 13: Tactics Continue to Vary along the Trade Winds

Posted on: 14.05.17

As the Trade Winds continue to provide great sailing conditions for the Tall Ships fleet, it has been another exciting day in Race 2 of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta

Rona II (UK) remains ahead on the water with 1,945 miles to go having taken a more northerly strategy. Peter von Danzig (Germany) is the most southerly vessel and is just 20.55 degrees above the equator and well below the Tropic of Cancer. She is steadily closing her Finish rival, Vahine, which is some 25 miles ahead NW.

“The Trade Winds are forecast to remain for another week but a high pressure is predicted to form SE of Bermuda which could result in some fascinating tactics as the navigators decide whether to circumnavigate to the north, or south, as they enter the last phase of their Transatlantic passage.”
Paul Bishop, Race Director, Sail Training International
