The Tall Ships Races Aalesund: the party has started

July 15, 2015

Rain hasn’t stopped play in Aalesund, Norway as

the remaining vessels in the fleet arrived for the second port of The Tall

Ships Races 2015.

Today (Wednesday 15 July) was the opening day; crews explored the town, over 20,000 visitors jostled to see the ships and the sound of music played across the harbour.

Crews from over

50 vessels, including 21 Class A’ are now taking advantage of the hot showers

and carnival atmosphere after a challenging and exciting first race.  They make an impressive spectacle – end to

end they would cover the distance of approximately 22 football pitches from the

smallest St Iv (Estonia) at 12.13

metres to the largest Sedov (Russia) at

122.30 metres with a crew of 200.

At the opening ceremony  Knut Western, Chairman, Sail Training

International said, äóìFourteen years ago the Tall Ships fleet visited íƒlesund for the

first time, we remember those days with joy. Thank you
