The North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016 Day Two: Blyth was Buzzing and Crews were Celebrating
Local Northumberland food, competitive inter-ship sports
competitions and activities for all the family brought visitors and
crews together for the Bank Holiday weekend in Blyth, Northumberland –
the first port of the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016.
Ship
crews battled it out in the inter-ships competitions of tug of war,
beach volleyball and rowing and also went out kayaking and surfing. They
also enjoyed free access to a swimming pool and gym and went on
cultural tours to Alnwick Castle and Garden and Housesteads.
They
then dressed up and took to the streets in a celebratory crew parade and
prize giving ceremony where they won hampers packed with Northumberland
produce to tuck into during their race to Gothenburg, Sweden – which
starts Monday 29 August.
As well as visiting the stunning Regatta
fleet visitors were treated to live music, a funfair, market stalls,
