Thank you Novorossiysk!
After a busy few days in Novorossisk the fleet departed port today (Monday 12th May) and are heading towards Sochi, for the next stage of the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta.
After undocking all the vessels gathered just outside the port before starting the Parade of Sail – the traditional way that the fleet says ‘thank you’ to the local people for hosting their visit.
This leg of the Regatta is a Cruise in Company rather than a race leg, therefore the vessels can take their time sailing to Sochi, and may go further out to sea to continue training their crews before heading into Sochi in a couple of days’ time.
This has been a successful first visit to Novorossiysk for the Tall Ships Races with visitor numbers on the first day alone over 100,000.
29 sail training vessels entered the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta, with 17 having arrived in Varna to take part, including one Ukranian and seven Russian ships. Having raced from Varna (Bulgaria) to Novorossiysk (Russia) most of them will cruise to Sochi (Russia), from where they will race the final leg to Constanta (Romania).
