Statsraad Lehmkuhl comes to the aid of stranded travellers
Ten people stranded in Norway in the wake of the volcano travel restrictions arrived back in Scotland in style – after hitching a lift on a Tall Ship!
The group, who were attending a conference in Bergen, arrived in Orkney on board the Norwegian sail training Tall Ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl.
They left Norway on Monday 19th April after only getting 15 minutes’ notice of the vessel sailing.
The passengers, some from the north east of Scotland, said it had been a “spur of the moment” decision.
‘Super adventure’
They described it as a great experience, despite some fairly heavy seasickness.
Neil Robertson told BBC Scotland: “What a super adventure, because it is a beautiful ship. Having the choice I would do it again, definitely.”
Fiona Doig added: “We were quite lucky. We were all gathered together – normally we were off seeing the sights, trying to fill our time. We looked at each other and thought ‘give it a try’.”
Their next challenge is to get to the to the Scottish mainland!.
