Race 3 – Morning Update 3 June

June 3, 2010

At the 0500 UTC/GMT report, none of the vessels had finsihed, although because there was no report from Hansa (Spain) she may well have crossed the finish line.  Overnight, Mir (Russia) has caught up with Dar Mlodziezy (Poland) and the two are close together with around 10 miles to go to finish and should therefore cross the line during the day.

Behind these two are Adonis (Greece) who has 39 miles to the finish, Akela (Russia – pictured) with 49 miles and Mythos (Greece) with 57 miles.

On corrected time, Dar Mlodziezy remains in the lead in Class A and overall, with Mir in second place in Class A and overall. In third place in Class A is Kaliakra (Bulgaria). Class B positions remain unchanged with Bodrum (Turkey) in the lead, Tecla (Netherlands) in second and Maybe (UK) in third. Class C also remains unchanged with Mythos (Greece) in the lead and Mati (Croatia) in second.  Class D positions have also not changed with Adonis (Greece) in the lead,  Akela (Russia) in second and Hansa (Spain) in third.

Due to the light winds, particularly near waypoint 1, the Race Committee have decided to bring forward the race time limit from 0200 UTC/GMT Friday 4 June, to 1500 UTC/GMT (1800 local) today Thursday 3 June, in order to allow the fleet sufficient time to get into Lavrion by midday on Friday for the start of the four day festival. This should also allow those vessels closest to Lavrion the opportunity to cross the finish line, while the others will be deemed to have ‘finished at sea’ and still be eligible for class prizes.

A final report on the race will be published as at 1600 UTC/GMT.
