Race 2 morning update, 26 May
Many of the fleet taking part in race 2 of the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta have now crossed the finish line. Just Alexander von Humboldt (Germany), Shabab Oman (Oman), Dewaruci (Indonesia) and Tenacious (UK) are still racing. These four vessels are experiencing light airs around waypoint 2 and because of this, the race committee have decided to bring the race time limit forward to 0700 UTC/GMT (1100 local) today in order to allow these vessels to make best way to the north entrance to the Bosphorus.
Tomorrow morning, 27 May, the Class A vessels are due to gather at 0600 UTC/GMT (0900 local) and convoy down to Istanbul where they are due to arrive around 1100 hrs local. The Class A ships will be berthed alongside in Karakí_y close to the Galata Bridge. The smaller Class C and D vessels will be berthed in the Atakí_y Marina.
On corrected time, the Russian ship Mir (pictured) is leading the Class A vessels, with Dar Mlodziezy (Poland) in second and Kaliakra (Bulgaria) in third. Tecla (Netherlands) is in the lead of the Class B vessels as well as the fleet overall on corrected time. Second in Class B is Maybe (UK) with Bodrum (Turkey) in third.
The leading Class C vessel is Mati (Croatia) with Christiana V (Greece) in second and Mythos (Greece) in third. Class D Akela (Russia) is leading the Class D, with Adonis (Greece) in second and Tamara (Ukraine) in third.
A number of vessels have already crossed the finish line with Hansa (Spain) taking line honours having crossed the finish line on 25 May at 1352 hrs local. Behind her was Akela (Russia) who finished at 1711 local and Tamara (Ukraine) who finished at 1854 local.
Hansa (Spain), Christiana V (Greece), Mati (Croatia) and Mythos (Greece) are all now in the Atakoy Marina with Tecla (Netherlands) and Maybe (UK) on their way.
A further update will be posted this evening around 1800 UTC/GMT (2100 local).
