Liverpool awaits ‘Oceans Eleven’!
The Irish Sea Tall Ships race finished at 1400hrs local time and the provisional results show Gaff Ketch Tecla (Netherlands) in first position both overall and in Class A/B and Bermudan Sloop Black Diamond of Durham (UK) in first position in Class C/D. Reports show the Class C Bermudan Cutter Challenge Wales (UK) as having covered the most nautical miles, however all these figures and positions are yet to be declared and confirmed so remain provisional.
The weather has been blustery with some heavy thundery showers today, which has made for some uncomfortable sailing during this final day of the race. However spirits will still be high as the fleet head for Liverpool.
Johanna Lucretia (UK) arrived in port on this morning’s high tide, greeted by a throng of on-lookers and a TV crew at the dock gate. The majority of the fleet are expected to arrive on this evening’s high tide (Canning River Entrance open between 2130hrs and 2230hrs), apart from Kapitan Borchardt (Poland), who is expected to arrive on tomorrow morning’s high tide (approx 1045-1115hrs local time).
Public interest in the Regatta has been high already and crowds are expected into the weekend when the festival culminates with the traditional ‘Parade of Sail’ on the River Mersey (Sunday at 1330hrs).
The crews are looking forward to some fun filled days in Liverpool, a city that always has a warm welcome for the Tall Ship fleet.
