Fleet arrive in Istanbul

May 27, 2010

The Class A ships in the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta arrived in Istanbul today in a convoy. Just after 1130 local, a cheer went up as the watching press and officials caught a glimpse of the Tall Ships as they appeared from under the Bosphorus Bridge which links Europe with Asia.

The Turkish vessel Bodrum led the way, with the Polish Dar Mlodziezy coming behind, and the Indonesian Dewaruci next. One by one the ships arrived and berthed alongside, every one being treated like a movie star with film crews and photographers recording their arrival.

At 1400 local this afternoon the opening ceremony will get proceedings under way and the public will be welcomed into the festival area to see the ships.

Tonight the captains will enjoy the traditional captains’ dinner at the Liman Restaurant which is right in the centre of the festival area, providing all the captains with a wonderful view of their ships in front of the famous Istanbul skyline.
