Fantastic cultural experience
“Being a trainee on the Tall Ships Races is a major opportunity. Meeting all these peope, discovering different cultures is just brilliant!” says 18-year-old Edward Iverson who is sailing on Rona II (UK). “We have just met trainees from Indonesia, Denmark and the Czech Rublic by playing football with them. Even if we cant understand each other’s language sometimes, we still communicate and its cool to meet them”.
Edward (pictured L with his watch officer Barnaby MacFie) recommends sail training to everyone. “Our duties on the boat are varied and very challenging. One day we might cook, one day we hand the sails, the next day we navigate. In this way we achieve qualifications for sailing which we can take away and use”.
Its not too late to get a berth on one of the ships in the fleet.
Potential trainees are encouraged to visit the ships or view their
website and find out about the opportunites available to them.
