Exciting Finish For Race One

July 5, 2011

With only two vessels left to cross the finish line out of a fleet of

40, people in the ports en route to Greenock are in for a Tall Ships

treat as the excitement of Race One comes to a close.

The Norwegians will be standing by to celebrate another victory in Class A with Christian Radich currently in first place overall on corrected time followed by Astrid from the Netherlands and Europa, also from the Netherlands in third.

Tecla from the Netherlands has taken first place on corrected time in Class B from Jolie Brise and there was very close competition in Class C with the UK’ Black Diamond of Durham finishing first in class ahead of Estona’ St Iv with less than one minute separating them on corrected time.

Paul Bishop, Race Director, comments: äóìThe race course option to the east of Ireland has created some tactically challenging conditions for the captains and crews which has led to some very close and exciting racing with places changing frequently.äó

The fleet are due to be in Greenock by 1200 on Saturday 9 July and results won’t be finalised until all signed race declaration forms are received by the Race Committee.

Several vessels intend to visit guest harbours following kind invitations to the fleet prior to their arrival in Greenock with ports in Arran, Belfast and Cambletown being particular favourites amongst the Captains and crew.
