Anticipation is Mounting in Sunny Spain

Anticipation is mounting in sunny A Coruí±a, Spain as nine vessels have already arrived at the end of their Cruise in Company in the penultimate port of The Tall Ships Races 2012.

Vessels already gracing the city’ waters are Fryderyk Chopin (Poland); Pelican of London (UK);  Kapitan Borchardt (Poland); Alba Explorer (UK); Spaniel (Latvia); Thermopylae Clipper (UK); Akela (Russia); Miles to Go (Belgium); Creidne (Ireland) and Gigi (UK).

Riga vessel, Spaniel was a particular crowd puller yesterday, thanks to its glamorous crew of five girls, who were interviewed and photographed by the local paper.  

The remaining vessels will be arriving during the course of tomorrow, with many due to be moored by 12.00hrs tomorrow (Friday 10 August) ahead of the official opening ceremony.

The colourful and vibrant city of A Coruí±a will then be hosting four days of entertainment and festivities for visitors and international crews including crew sports, cultural tours, a treasure hunt, a tug of war competition and fireworks.

Christer Samuelsson, Chairman of The Tall Ships Races 2012 representing Sail Training International said, ” Coruí±a is a wonderful port which is always friendly to sail training and hosting the Tall Ship fleet.  This festival has been four years in the planning and I’m sure the crews and trainees from around the world will have a very special time enjoying the many activities and culture this great city has to offer.äó

The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports: 

St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)

Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July

Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July

A Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August

Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
