Fredrikstad was proud to host the Tall Ships Races for the third time in 2019 – following highly successful events in 2005 and 2014. As Norway’s sixth-largest city, it has a long and proud tradition of shipping and maritime activities, which dates back to the 13th century.
Away from the shoreline, Fredrikstad is home to one of Scandinavia’s best-preserved fortress towns. It was once an important trading centre between Europe and Scandinavia, and it provides visitors with strong historical architectural surroundings to enjoy.
The Tall Ships fleet enjoyed a truly memorable visit as clear blue skies accompanied the world famous Tall Ships fleet on their arrival into the beautiful Norwegian port of Fredrikstad. The second Host Port stop of the Tall Ships Races 2019 was a fantastic success. Once again, the fleet entertained hundreds of thousands of spectators over four days. During the event, crews and spectators were treated to a wide array of cultural activities, live music, sports and entertainment including a stunning fireworks display on the final night of the festivities.
