The Tall Ships Races and Regattas may be over for 2016 – but now it’s time to plan your 2017 big sea adventure.
As well as the transatlantic Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta – we can’t wait to return to the Baltic Sea for the iconic Tall Ships Races 2017.
The Tall Ships Races 2017 promises to be one of our most spectacular yet – taking in four different countries, across five ports from the end of June to the beginning of August.
Starting in Halmstad, Sweden, we race across to Kotka, Finland and then enjoy a cruise in company to Turku, Finland. From there we race to Klaipeda, Lithuania and then have a third and final race to Szczecin, Poland. And you can take part in just one, or all of the legs in this epic event.
These ports have hosted a total of 11 successful Tall Ships Races and Regattas between them. And, each city is eager to welcome the international fleet back to its shores.
“All of our selected host ports have already earned an excellent reputation for delivering our events. Over previous years they have all demonstrated their ability to look after sail training Tall Ships and put the development and education of young people, through the adventure of being at sea, at the heart of their events. We want as many young people as possible to take advantage of this once in a life time opportunity to sail in The Tall Ships Races 2017 and we are confident they will have an amazing experience.”
Knut Western, Chairman of Tall Ships Races (Europe).
SAIL ON BOARD
We’re expecting thousands of young people from all over the world to take part in the Tall Ships Races 2017. They will confront demanding challenges as part of their sail training adventures… and we want to see you on board.
To find out how head over to our Tall Ships Races 2017 event page on www.sailonboard.com to see which vessels are currently entered and are looking for trainees (the name for novice sailors).
Our vessel list is constantly growing as new ships entered – there are already 45 vessels to choose from – so if you can’t find the one for you, keep checking back.
Why do it?
You do learn about sailing while taking part in our events – but it’s much more than that. Sail Training is an activity that inspires self-confidence, personal responsibility and promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds. Most people who have a Tall Ships adventure find it to be a positive and life-changing experience.
Worried about cost?
Don’t – there are opportunities for bursaries, you could become a host port trainee and we provide lots of help on fundraising.
Visit the ports
As a spectator experience, the port festivals are like no other, and the Tall Ships Races 2017 in the Baltic Sea are expected to attract around three million visitors across the five ports. Activities and entertainment will be provided for people of all ages, using the magnificent Tall Ships as a grand backdrop.
You can find out everything you need to know about the Tall Ships Races 2017 on our event page – we hope to see you there.
