RACE REPORT 2: Slow Progress Overnight

Posted on: 12.09.16

Race One is now well underway in the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016, and winner of the 2014 event, Akela (Russia) has made an excellent start to her campaign to retain her title.

“After a slow start to the race the NE wind has increased overnight and the fleet is making better progress,” commented Race Director Paul Bishop. “The two Russian sister-ships are leading Class A with Nadezhda keeping just ahead of her rival Mir. They are very close and we could be seeing the start of a match race between them all the way to the finish line. Akela  has made excellent progress in the other division (Classes B, C and D) and also leads on the water”.

Winds are expected to remain light to moderate, north easterly, become westerly for a time for the next couple of days.  The forecast remains fair for the rest of the race.
