Fleet Prepare to Race
The Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta fleet are now approaching the area of the start line and making preparations for the race start which will take place between 0500 and 0700 UTC/GMT (0800-1000 local), tomorrow, Tuesday 1 June. They have made good progress through the Sea of Marmara, with many gathered north east of Gokceada island and the remainder now passing through the Canakkale Strait including Alexander von Humboldt (pictured).
Tomorrow morning, the fleet will cross a start line between the island of Gokceada and Mehmetcik on the mainland. Within the two hour window, the vessels will record their own start time which they will then report to Race Control, based on Dar Mlodziezy (Poland). They will then race towards Lavrion, passing two waypoints en route.
The wind conditions are forecast to be S-SW force 3-5, later backing S-SE 4-6 by 0600 UTC/GMT tomorrow. Further outlook forecasts the wind veering westerly.
A further update will be posted tomorrow morning at 0700 hrs UTC/GMT.
