About

Biography

The Topsail-schooner has been in service since early 1983. The Thor Heyerdahl is based with its activities in the Baltic and the North Sea during the summer months, and around the Canary Islands, and in the Caribbean during the winter season. Since 1996, the Thor Heyerdahl is the flag ship of High Seas High School (HSHS) ermany and sails with students during the winter to South and Middle America in 6-7 month voyages.

This triple-masted Topsail-schooner, with an overall length of 50 metres, offers room on board for 32 students and young adults. We aim to bring young people in the age group 15 – 25 years and from all social classes together. All participants are supervised and schooled during their voyage by trained teaching staff and seamen. The Thor Heyerdahl is registered under the number TSG 342 at the STAG (Sail Training Association Germany).
