About

Biography

Seute Deern was built in Denmark in 1939 by the Ring Andersen Yard in Svendborg and launched with the name Havet which means The Sea.

For the first five years, during the war, she sailed in coastal waters. In 1956 she was sold to a Danish shipping company, Lauritzen, which used her for carrying freight in coastal waters. Under new ownership and named Noona Dan, she carried an exploration team to Greenland.

She continued ocean exploration passages until 1963 when she was sold again to the former Pamir-Passat Stiftung in Germany where she was used as a training ship for young deck officers and renamed Seute Deern.

In 1973 she was given to the newly founded association – Clipper Deutsches Jugendwerk zur See as their first ship. Now they have a fleet of four; the others are Albatros, Amphitrite and Johann Smidt.
