Biography

Szczecin held the Tall Ships Races finale for the first time in 2007, when the West Pomeranian Voivodeship capital was visited by almost 100 vessels and 3,500 crew members from 35 countries. The event lasted for 6 days and attracted about 2 million visitors, both residents and tourists. It was broadcast on TV and the internet, with 15 million people watching our webcam streams. TSR 2007 was a very successful event for Szczecin and has made the city one of the world’s preferred sailing destinations. The 4-day finals involved fun and games, deck tours, an opportunity to talk to crew members, shanty concerts, exhibitions, happenings and performances. One of the greatest attractions was the Crew Parade: a colourful procession of sailors and residents made its way through the streets of the city accompanied by brass bands, full of white sailor’s caps, striped shirts and captain’s hats.

Szczecin also held the 2013 edition of the event. In a nutshell, the Tall Ships Races 2013 involved a month-long cruise on the Baltic Sea, visiting 4 ports along the way, and the grand finale in Szczecin. The city became a sailing hub once again, hosting about 100 sailing ships and yachts. The event attracted around 2.5 million visitors and was organised with even more panache than in 2007. 2 river banks were joined together to double the available area. There were 2 amusement parks, and 3 stages for concerts played by ESKA Music Awards artists and the star of the event, Nelly Furtado. The finale was immediately followed by the 6th Fireworks Festival PYROMAGIC 2013 and the electronic music festival Szczecin Music Live 2013.
