The "Ciutat Badalona" was built in 1929 at the shipyard Faarborg (Denmark) and began her career with trading activities. In the 70s she began a long journey to the West Indies.

In 2006, assessed by a group of people aiming for a traditional vessel to represent their city, Badalona, Marina Badalona, SA. acquires the traditional boat, named Johanne Regina by that time. The first step is to change her name into Ciutat Badalona. Still moored with engine failures and no activity, the primary group of assessors create the nonprofit organization Associacio d’Amics del Quetx Ciutat Badalona (AAqCB) in order to provide voluntary crew to sail and mantain the vessel and to teach traditional sailing to whoever wants it. The recovery process of the vessel has been complex and in September 2011 she is ready to hoist sails.

During this short time, the Ciutat Badalona has sailed all year around, has trained up to 80 trainees, has sailed in several traditional ships meetings, and has started to sail with schools. The close collaboration between the owner of the ship (Marina Badalona, SA) and the AAqCB is what makes this project to succeed.
