To The East…

Following careful consideration, the Race Committee of The Tall Ships Races 2011 organised by Sail Training International and presented by Szczecin, today announced that the fleet will be racing to Greenock, Scotland via the East Coast of Ireland due to predicted weather conditions in the Atlantic.

The fleet will take part in the Parade of Sail leaving the City of Waterford at 700hrs heading out towards the race start approx. five miles at sea for 1400hrs.  Sail training will take place on the way to the race start.

Tall Ship admirers will see Russian vessel Mir depart first, closely followed by Dar Sczecina, Johanna Lucretia and Alba Explorer. The last vessel planned to leave Waterford is Lord Nelson at approx. 840hrs. 

Racing via the East Coast will mean the fleet could arrive in Greenock, Scotland as early as Wednesday 6 July 2011.
