Tall Ships Arrive in St Malo

July 4, 2012

Tomorrow will see the official opening of The Tall Ships Races 2012 as Sail Training International welcomes 42 majestic Tall Ships, along with their Captains, crews and trainees to the beautiful host port of St Malo.

Thirteen Tall Ships are expected in port by the end of today including Dutch Class A vessel, Europa, who is the temporary home for several Sail Training International trainees as part of the Sultanate of Oman Bursary Scheme.

St Malo is an historic port and Tall Ships play an intrinsic part of the town’s history.  It is claimed by many locals that if you try, you can still hear the sea shanties echoing on St Malo’s piers…

We are unsure if sea shanties will form part of the Opening Ceremony taking place in the Crew Centre at 11.30hrs tomorrow,  but we can promise a very warm welcome from the local team who have planned a fantastic programme over the next four days.

The arrival of the remaining Tall Ships will ensure the port is buzzing with activity tomorrow as crowds flock to see a spectacular sight.

The Parade of Sail is taking place during Sunday with the start of Race 1 commencing at sea on Monday as the fleet race to Lisbon.

The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports:
