Tall Ships Arrive in Lisbon
Spanish vessel Juan Sebastian De Elcano (pictured above) received a fantastic welcome earlier today as volunteers and media gathered to see the spectacular Tall Ship join the ever growing fleet in Lisbon.
Many Tall Ships have arrived in Lisbon ahead of the official opening ceremony with all vessels due in by 12.00hrs Thursday 19th July.
The colourful and vibrant capital city will play host to international crews over the the next few days with local organisers promising a fantastic entertainment prorgramme for trainees.
Activities include an orientation Lisbon challenge, scuba diving, a football tournament and a traditional Portuguese games tournament to name just a few. For those who prefer to seek a little bit of relaxation ahead of Race 2 to Cadiz, there will be trips to the beaches of Cascais.
Tomorrow’s opening ceremony will take place at 1600hrs and will be followed by a host of entertainment including theater for children and concerts.
The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports:
St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)
Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July
Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July
A Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August
Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
