Sail Training International Bursaries Extended to Voyages Outside of Races & Regattas
Following the joint decision to cancel The Tall Ships Races 2021, we’re delighted to announce that the Oman Bursary Fund and John E. Burnett Bursary is now be open to applicants who are able to participate on a Sail Training voyage this year and will exceptionally not be restricted to The Tall Ships Races or Regattas…
The cancellation of The Tall Ships Races 2021 has left a hole in the heart of everyone involved in our events and the wider Sail Training community. Despite the sadness and disappointment though, we remain committed to supporting disadvantaged young people and the Tall Ships fleet through our bursary programs.
Instead of only being used during a Tall Ships Race or Regatta, you will be able to apply for a bursary for any Sail Training voyage in 2021 that lasts for five days or more on board a vessel.
All other conditions of the bursaries remain the same and will need to be met for applications to be considered, you can find these details on our funding and bursaries page.
How to Apply
It’s easy to apply for either bursary, just head over to the relevant form and enter your details. Once we receive your application, it will be passed to our approvals panel for consideration.
Oman Bursary Fund
In 2012, we had the pleasure of launching a bursary scheme in partnership with the Sultanate of Oman. It aims to foster international friendship and provide new and exciting opportunities for young people each year and it does this by helping them to experience a sail training voyage.
The bursary, usually limited to those who haven’t taken part in a Race or Regatta before, awards each successful applicant with a maximum of £450.
John E. Burnett Bursary
With similar goals to our other bursaries, the scheme is aimed at disabled people of any age. The purpose of the fund is to encourage self-development by actively participating in a Sail Training voyage on a Tall Ship.
The maximum amount awarded is £600 each (if living outside Europe, exceptions may be made for long distance travel costs).
