Record Breaking Return For Tall Ships

Sail Training International and a fleet of Tall Ships will make a spectacular return this week to the host port of St Malo  for the 12th time in the history of The Tall Ships Races to start this year’s summer series. The popular French port is set to break the record for hosting The Tall Ships Races the most times since the event was established in 1956.

The Tall Ships Races 2012, presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International, last visited St Malo in 2006.  The summer series is renowned around the world as one of the key highlights of the maritime calendar, as a leading tourist attraction and in terms of ability to deliver economic benefit to the host city.

Commenting on the The Tall Ships Races 2012 – St Malo event, Robin Snouck Hurgronje, Event Chairman, The Tall Ships Races 2012 said: äóìThe international fleet of Tall Ships always enjoy visiting the friendly port of St Malo with crews and trainees made to feel extremely welcome as they experience the warmth of French culture. 

äóìWe have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Mayor and local authority of St Malo in addition to local residents who have been great supporters of The Tall Ships Races and have demonstrated continuing loyalty to sail training.

äóìThis is reflected in the number of times the event has visited the port and we would like to congratulate all who have been involved over the years for repeatedly staging a fantastic experience for crews and trainees who visit St Malo.äó

Up to 7,000 trainees will take part in The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International.  The summer series is visiting the following host ports: 

St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)

Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July

Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July

La Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August

Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
