Race Update 3

August 3, 2010

It was all change at the 06:00hrs reporting schedule today.  In Class A on corrected time, Mir (Russia) has dropped back to fourth, leaving Sorlandet (Norway) leading the class, with Christian Radich (Norway) and Stad Amsterdam (Netherlands) in second and third place respectively.

In Class B, Jolie Brise (UK) remains in the lead but Pegasus (UK) has dropped back to fourth with Wyvern (Norway) now in second place and Tecla (Netherlands) in third position.

Leading Class C vessels have all changed places, with Black Diamond of Durham (UK) now leading,  Dar Szczecina (Poland) in second and Spaniel (Latvia) in third on corrected time.

Dasher (UK) has overtaken Challenger 4 (UK) to take third position in Class D with Endorfina (Poland) leading the class and Hansa (Spain) in second position (and also leading on the water).

There have been two further retirements – Dewaruci (Indonesia) and Swan (UK).

In contrast to Race One where the strong wind conditions benefited the larger ships in the fleet, the light and unfavourable winds in Race Two are certainly favouring the smaller, lighter vessels.    Currently the wind is WNW, force 2-3 with smooth sea conditions.  The outlook is for it to continue from an unfavourable direction, generally light and occasionally moderate, which means a slow and challenging race for the traditionally rigged vessels.
