Race report 6: Mir leads Class A on the water

July 12, 2013

Mir  (Russia) leads Class A on the water with 163 miles to the finish line but Tre Kronor af Stockholm (Sweden) is leading Class A on corrected time with Statsraad Lehmkuhl (Norway) closely behind in second place.

Fryderyck Chopin (Poland) has taken the risky tactical course to the west of Gotland and although she is currently lying in 10th place on corrected time it will be interesting to see if she benefits from her tactics over the next day or two.

Paul Bishop, Race Director said, äóìThe fleet has spread widely across the Baltic due to the Captains differing tactics in dealing with the strong headwinds over the past couple of days. Ebb Tide (Netherlands) took a bold move and went east of Gotland and has come out at the head of the fleet just eight miles in front of her nearest rival Tomidi (Belgium). This could turn into quite a duel to the finish line just 88 miles away, with the winds forecast to come from the west which should allow Tomidi to use her large spinnaker as she is in Class D.”

What is sail training?

Sail Training is an adventure activity, which includes far more than sailing instruction. Participants are required to confront demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. Those who undertake Sail Training on Tall Ships generally find it a positive life-changing experience.
