Race Report 5: Light winds make for a challenging finish

September 26, 2013

Toulon is now filling up with ships arriving from Barcelona.  Alexander von Humboldt II (Germany) made a graceful entrance and was the first Class A to arrive in her berthing area.  Mir (Russia) followed a couple of hours later, assisted by a tug she reversed into her berth with her cadets lined up smartly on the deck.

Eight vessels are still to cross the finish line but it is expected that they will finish within the time limit.  The wind continues to be light to very light, so challenging for the crews to get the most out of their sails.

There have been some swapping around of positions for the leaders and a couple of non-reports, which has changed some of the current placings.

Provisional positions therefore, in each class, on corrected time, are as follows.

Class A

1  Mir  (Russia)

2  Royal Helena (Bulgaria)

3  La Grace  (Czech Republic)

Class B

1  Pandora  (Italy)

2  Johanna Lucretia (UK)

3  Ciutat Badalona (Spain)

Class C

1  Femme Fatale (Hungary)

2  Galaxie (Spain)

3  Tartessos (Spain)

Class D

1  Miles to Go (Belgium)

2  Akela (Russia)

3  Moon Dance of Carrick (UK)

These positions remain provisional until the fleet are all in port and the declaration forms have been submitted to the race office.
