Race Committee Announce Delayed Start

July 7, 2012

Following careful consideration of weather conditions, Sail Training International’ Race Committee today announced the decision to start Race 1 from Option C, involving the fleet sailing to Waypoint 2 close to Ouessant where the wind should be more favourable.

The Tall Ships will still leave St Malo on Sunday 8th July 2012 in two Parade of Sails in the morning and evening but the start of Race 1 will now take place on Tuesday 10th July 2012.

The Race Committee has introduced a wide start window between 0600hrs and 1800hrs in addition to creating a five-mile starting line.  This will ensure that vessels officially start the race as soon as the Waypoint 2 coordinate is reached.

Every vessel will then be required to report their start time immediately to Sail Training International’ independent Communication Officers who will verify the ship’ time and position.

The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports:

St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)

Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July

Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July

La Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August

Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
