Provisional Results
Vessels which took part in the North Sea Regatta are now arriving in IJmuiden and taking a welcome break from the rigorous sailing of the last five days or so. The current race placings displayed show the provisional results of the Regatta but these will not be finalised until the last ships have arrived in IJmuiden. The cut off time for ships to arrive is midday on 18 August so the final results will be published by about mid-afternoon on the same day.
As frequently happens there are changes in positions up until the last minute. One significant change from the last placings to these provisional results is that of Rona II which has gone from 1st in class and 1st overall to being 4th and 5th respectively. The Race Committee regret a mistake with the figures that led to the incorrect placings of 1st in class and 1st overall being published, and sincerely apologise to Rona II crew and all of her supporters.
The new provisional winner overall is Dar Szczecina (Poland) who is also the winner of Class C. The provisional winner of Class A is Stad Amsterdam (Netherlands) with Eendracht (Netherlands) in second place and Oosterschelde (Netherlands) in third. Tecla (Netherlands) is the provisional winner of Class B with Maybe (UK) in second place having completed just one leg.
Behind Dar Szczecina in Class C is Riyal (Netherland) with Black Diamond of Durham (UK), for so long the leaders of the race, back in third place.
The provisional winner of Class D is Lietuva (Lithuania) with Urania (Netherlands) in second and Endorfina (Poland) in third.
This Regatta has been a very interesting event for the organizers and competitors alike. Certainly the weather conditions have been extremely testing for a lot of the race – it is great credit to captains and crews that they have arrived in the Netherlands still smiling and ready for the next challenge that is Sail Amsterdam. The Race Committee would like to thank all those crews that participated and for helping to make the event memorable and hopefully a worthwhile experience on which to look back.
