Mexico Stole the Show in A Coruí±a

Mexican Tall Ship Cuauhtemoc  stole the show at the first day of maritime festivities in A Coruí±a, Spain today (Friday 10 August).

Cuauhtemoc, which has the largest compliment of crew and trainees in The Tall Ships Race this year (258 in total), made a dramatic entry into port first thing this morning. Trainees and crew decorated the yard arms in pristine white trousers and the vessel was guided in by tug boat, accompanied by traditional Mexican music.

Later that morning the Chairman of The Tall Ships Races 2012, Christer Samuelsson joined the Mayor of A Coruí±a, Carlos Negreira, in an official opening ceremony, which signalled the beginning of a four day action packed festival.

By the afternoon most of the remaining 43 vessels had arrived and crowds of visitors were flocking into the port to enjoy the first day of events and queuing to climb aboard the open vessels.

The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports: 

St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)

Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July

Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July

A Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August

Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
