About the ports

Klaipۄda is Lithuania’ ‘gateway to the world’.  Situated at the mouth of the Danۄ River where it flows into the Baltic Sea, it is the third largest city in Lithuania and the capital of the west of Lithuania.

The seaport of Klaipeda has direct links with other European and international ports and is a sea transport centre with regular shipping lines and a fast modern, motorway.

Tourism is important to the area and the newly opened passenger cruise terminal, close to the City centre, will bring increased traffic to the area in the years to come. Klaipeda has a population of around 200,000. It has direct motorway links with Lithuania’ capital city of Vilnius (310 km) and the second city of Kaunas (220 km)

Klaipeda has been host to the Tall Ships on two previous occasions. These events in 2009 and 2011 attracted over a million visitors and spectators.

Szczecin is the capital city of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland. In the vicinity of the Baltic Sea, it is the country’s seventh-largest city and a major seaport in Poland.

Szczecin is surrounded by water, on the banks of Szczecin Lagoon – Poland’ largest reservoir. The western Oder flows into the lagoon carrying the greater part of the waters from the Oder Basin, covering nearly one third of the area of Poland. Another feature of the city is the Dۃbie Lake, the fourth largest lake in Poland, which offers great opportunities for sailing and sail training for young people.

South of the city centre kayakers can discover the charm of the MiÛ»dzyodrze, which is a 30km long, and 2km wide unique area of picturesque marshes and winding canals.

The city of Szczecin hosted a Regatta in 2003 was the final port for The Tall Ships Race
