Around 2500 crew to arrive in Aalesund: the port of friendship
Most of the vessels
in The Tall Ships Races 2015 fleet are now moored in the picturesque harbour of
Aalesund in Norway after completing the first race leg from Belfast, UK. And from tomorrow (Wednesday 15 July) until
Saturday 18 July the quayside will be bursting with life, people, events and
cultural activities.
Aalesund
hosted the event for the first time in 2001 and the crew members and visitors
are once again going to enjoy the experience of a lifetime amongst the fjords,
mountains and islands surrounding this intimate harbour and the fantastic
entertainment programme provided by the city.
The deadline
for arrival of all ships is 12 noon tomorrow and then – following the official
opening ceremony at 1400 – there will be visitor activities for children and
adults include traditional maritime workshops on making boats, knots, tar, rope
and barrels. There is also a wide range of live music and activities from the
Big Jump (a giant ski jump into water), to a street basketball
competition.
Around 2,500
crews will be enjoying the festivities from vessels representing 17 different
nationalities and a carnival atmosphere is guaranteed.
