An Irish Welcome for our Finishing Fleet

August 19, 2012

Just six vessels remain racing in the final few days of the last leg of The Tall Ships Races 2012.   Five have now retired, including Maybe (UK) who had been holding third place in the ‘B’ class for the last few days. Johanna Lucretia (UK) is the last remaining vessel, currently second in Class ‘B’ on corrected time, to cross the finish line, but she has just 18 miles to go.

Gale force winds have delivered tough sailing conditions for the fleet.  Thanks go to the Irish ports who offered

hospitality to our crews who have needed to take breaks ashore –  Cork, Waterford, Dun

Laoghaire and Belfast.

Some vessels have now arrived in Dublin port and others are anchored at sea – but all will be arriving in time for the exciting four day festival 23 – 26 August in Dublin’ Docklands area.

The current race positions on corrected time are:

Class A

1st: Cuauhtemoc  (Mexico) FINISHED

2nd: Alexander Von Humboldt II (Germany) FINISHED

3rd: Fryderyk Chopin (Poland) FINISHED

Class B

2nd: Johanna Lucretia (UK)

Class C
