Adornate receives Friendship Trophy Flag
The much coveted Friendship Trophy was yesterday awarded to Romanian ship Adornate.
The Friendship Trophy has a long tradition in Tall Ships Races. It is awarded at the end of every race series and is given to the vessel that, in the opinion of the other captains and crews, has contributed most towards international friendship and understanding during the event.
This is the first time Adornate, a two-masted staysail schooner, has joined a Tall Ships event and is a very welcome addition to the fleet. Her home port of Constansa is the final port of next year’s Black Sea Regatta (30 April to 27 May) – the other ports being Varna, Novorossiysk and Sochi.
Captain Dodoran is pictured receiving the Friendship Flag from Race Chairman Chris Bickert and Race Director Mike Bowles. The flag accompanies the trophy, and Captain Dodoran said it will be flown with pride.

What is sail training?
Sail Training is an adventure activity, which includes far more than sailing instruction. Participants are required to confront demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. Those who undertake Sail Training on Tall Ships generally find it a positive life-changing experience.
