We want everyone to experience a rising sun on an open ocean; the feel of the wind of your face and the taste of salt spray on your lips… but we know this has been made much more difficult through the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, if you can’t make it out to sea or are missing out on a planned but cancelled voyage, there is an alternative way to take part with online virtual racing with Sailonline’s Tall Ship Racing 2021.
What is Virtual TALL SHIP Racing?
Virtual racing simulators are online games that let you experience the thrill of an epic race from the comfort of home, and anywhere else you have an internet connection. You are able to pit your skills against a large online community of fellow racers, all trying to master the powers of the elements and cross the finish line first.
Races play out in real time alongside their real life counterparts, following the exact same race routes and waypoints. You’ll also have realistic weather conditions for the race, giving you the chance to learn how to take advantage of wind speeds and directions to take you to the front of the fleet!
This is more than a simple PlayStation game though, there’s a huge amount to learn from taking your digital ship out on to the waters and taking part in a race. The functions that virtual racing lets you perform when commanding your ship are vast and encompass all the finesse and detail required when at the helm of a real ship.
SAILONLINE
Once again in 2021, we’ve teamed up with a virtual racing simulator, Sailonline to help you to sail in our events without even stepping out of your front door. They’ll be staging virtual races of The Tall Ships Races 2021 (Sailonline’s Baltic Tall Ships), The Tall Ships Races Magellan-Elcano 500 Series 2021 and the SCF White Sails of Peace Tall Ships Regatta 2021.

One of the best parts about the virtual nature of Sailonline is that it allows more flexibility for beginners, with a hugely increased margin for error and experimentation. If you’ve ever fancied being the Captain of ship, calling the shots and guiding your own vessel through the sea you can!
Registration is easy, just click to register for an account, verify your email and you’re ready to go. Best of all, it’s free to take part in each race of the series, so what are you waiting for!
