Tall Ships Races International Ltd, a subsidiary of Sail Training International, and the Host Ports of The Tall Ships Races 2021 announce the withdrawal of Turku as a Host Port of The Tall Ships Races 2021.
It is with much regret and sadness we announce Turku’s decision to withdraw from the event, made following an announcement from the Finnish government that stringent travel restrictions will remain in place until at least 15th June.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating affect around the world and we would like to express our sincere thanks to the organising team in Turku for all their work in the preparation of the event.
Following this decision, we are now in discussion with the remaining Host Ports of Klaipeda, Tallinn, Mariehamn and Szczecin to decide how we can accommodate Turku’s withdrawal from the Tall Ships Races 2021.
An update regarding these discussions and the alternative arrangements will be made in the coming days.
As we move closer to the start of the races, we will continue to monitor the travel restriction in the remaining Host Port countries to ensure all aspects of The Tall Ships Races 2021 are completed in the safest way for trainees, vessel operators and visitors alike.
We advise all vessel operators to review the COVID-19 regulations in place in the different Baltic countries to ensure that they are aware of the current travel requirements.
The thoughts of everyone at Tall Ships Races International Ltd and the organising parties of Klaipeda, Tallinn, Mariehamn and Szczecin are with everyone affected by COVID-19 in these difficult times.
