Latest update on Race 2 from Stavanger to Harlingen

Posted on: 29.07.18

As the fleet departs from Stavanger with a stunning Parade of Sail after a memorable four-day visit, the Tall Ships Races 2018 Race Committee has revised the arrangements for the start of Race 2 from Stavanger to Harlingen.

After monitoring the weather forecast overnight, the Race 2 Start shall now be outside the North Channel to Stavanger with all vessels crossing the Start Line between 16:00 and 22:00 UTC (18:00 and 24:00 local) on Monday 30 July and will employ a start gate of six hours.

There is no change to today’s Parade of Sail which takes place between 12:00 and 16:00 local time. Viewpoints have been organised at Tungenes (by Randaberg Municipality) and Fjøløy (by Rennesøy Municipality).

Sail Training International Race Director Ben Stuart said the Race Committee has been monitoring the situation closely over the past days and that the Race Committee met on Sunday morning to review the latest weather information before making the decision.

“The Race Committee made the decision to delay after reviewing the weather overnight and taking into account the increased conditions over the course forecasted for today and tomorrow. Race 2 will now start outside the North Channel to Stavanger between 16:00 and 22:00 UTC (18:00 and 24:00 local) tomorrow (Monday 30 July).”
