Final Parade of Sail

The final Parade of Sail of The Tall Ships Races 2012 will take place tomorrow with some of the fleet preparing to leave Dublin as early as 7.00am to ensure the Samuel Beckett Bridge can reopen for pedestrians by 8.00am.

The entire fleet will be led out of Dublin at 10.40am by Irish naval vessel, LE Emer, with the Lord Mayor and Minister Varadkar aboard. 

The Captains have been asked to pass through the Eastlink Bridge before its scheduled closing at 12.30. The fleet will then head towards Dublin’s saluting vessels to bid farewell to the city.

Guayas will follow LE Emer with Class C and D vessels closely behind.  The parade will then continue with Danmark with De Gallant the last to leave.

A 21 gun salute will take place at Poolbeg light by Irish army artillery

guns as the tall ships proceed to a point off Dun Laoghaire.  They will

then go about the LE Emer heading towards Bailey Lighthouse at Howth

where the tugs Beaufort and Shackleton will spray their fire jets in a

farewell to Dublin.

In the Captains’ Briefing which took place today, Capt. David T. Dignam, Harbour Master, Dublin, said a few farewell words in Irish

to the attending Captains which translated as: “A thousand thank

you(s).  Happy Sailing.  Blessings to you and may you go safely.”

Sail Training

International’s Head of Race Directorate, Paul Bishop, asked the

Captains to set sail as soon as possible to provide the anticipated

crowds with a view of the tall ships in their full glory for the final

Parade of Sail of this year’s race series.
