Gold, Silver or Bronze?
The Tall Ships Races 2010 – Hartlepool has been nominated for a national tourism award.
Hartlepool Borough Council has been named as a finalist in the
category of äóìBest Event in the Year in 2010äó in the 2012 VisitEngland
Awards for Excellence.
The four day event attracted nearly one million visitors to the town to
see a fleet of 59 tall ships and 2,000 international trainees and crew. £26.5m worth of economic impact was
created in the local economy.

Mayor Stuart Drummond said: äóìThe visit of the Tall Ships Races to
Hartlepool was a resounding success and really placed the town on the
map.

Sail Training International and members of the team from Hartlepool Borough Council will attend a cermony on 22 May 2012 to find out if they have won Gold, Silver, Bronze or a ‘highly commended’ award.
Gwyn Brown, Head of Commercial Directorate, Sail Training International, said: “It is fantastic that The Tall Ships Races 2010 Hartlepool has been recognised for ‘excellence’ by VisitEngland.
“It was the first time the town had hosted an event of such magnitude which still sits at the forefront of people’s minds in addition to attracting media coverage.
“Hartlepool has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to sail training and continue to encourage young people to take advantage of opportunities avaialble. All at Sail Training International hope the town will once again become a host port in one of our races or regattas in the future.”
