About
Biography
Built in 1934 in Les Sables-d’Olonne for a skipper from Groix, Biche fished for tuna until 1956 before sailing under the Belgian and English flags. In 1992, it was bought by the Port Museum of Douarnenez, then restored by our association “Les Amis du Biche”. Today, Biche is sailing again, a living witness to Breton maritime history. Biche is the last survivor of the hundreds of famous Atlantic Dundee Tuna boats built between 1900 and 1936.
Since 2012, under the control and guidance of a professional and experienced crew, Biche has been allowing everyone to discover life on board, to train in navigation, to learn and participate in the various maneuvers such as hoisting and lowering the sails, handling the hawsers, etc. Biche offers the opportunity to share teamwork with groups, individual participants, disadvantaged young people and people with disabilities.
On board Biche, everyone can live a collective, positive experience that is conducive to exchange, mutual aid and personal development by learning about traditional sailing and discovering our maritime heritage.
