Race Two underway
After a successful event in first-time race port, Sochi, with some 362,000 visitors, Race Two of the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta got underway this afternoon.
Having departed the port during the morning, the fleet assembled before parading along the shoreline, a great spectacle for spectators on the shoreline.
The weather on the start line was good – south easterly wind of 9 knots increasing to 15 knots by the time all vessels had crossed. Sea conditions were slight choppy, wave height 1.5m and good visibility.
All vessels successfully crossed the start line without incident, all within their class time limits. First to cross, after the 1600hrs local time start, in Class A was Mircea (Romania) closely followed by Nadezhda (Russia) and then Kaliakra (Bulgaria). In Class B, Bodrum (Turkey) crossed first, followed by Johanna Lucretia (UK). In Class C, Akela (Russia) crossed ahead of Sea Adventure (Bulgaria).
The fleet are now on their way to Constanta, approximately 463 nautical miles, via a waypoint 10 miles off the southern tip of the Crimean Penisula.

29 sail training vessels entered the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta, with 17 having raced from Varna (Bulgaria) to Novorossiysk (Russia), including one Ukranian and seven Russian ships. 13 are now racing from Sochi (Russia) to Constanta (Romania).
