Helsinki Joins the Party on Second Stop of The Tall Ships Races 2024
Flowing a thrilling first race of The Tall Ships Races 2024, the fleet arrived in Helsinki with the Finnish capital eager to begin the celebrations…
With Captains and crews still buzzing from an exciting race through the Baltic sea from Klaipeda, visitors in Helsinki wasted no time in welcoming the magnificent fleet to their shores. Throughout the week vessels have been arriving and by midday had all arrived ahead of a truly special exchange to officially open proceedings.
Just before noon, the bells of Helsinki Cathedral and the Uspenski Cathedral rang loud across the city, warmly welcoming the youth sailors and their magnificent ships. In a spectacular response, the fleet then sounded their horns to greet the city and its residents to celebrate the spirit of exploration and adventure that is at the heart of The Tall Ships Races.
With warm welcomes exchanged and land legs now found, there is an exciting programme of activities and events ahead for the crews with the traditional inter-crew sports, cultural activities taking in the Olympic stadium and DJ workshops, as well as the eagerly anticipated Prize Giving Ceremony.
