Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta – Race Update 1

April 12, 2010

The Dutch Class A vessel Oosterschelde (pictured) is leading the Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta on corrected time both in class and overall. Behind her in Class A is Kaliakra (Bulgaria) with Astrid (Netherlands) in third place.

The leading Class B vessel on corrected time is Far Barcelona (Spain) with Pandora (Italy) in second and Tecla (Netherlands) in third.

The leading Class C/D vessels on corrected time is Akela (Russia) with Viva (Latvia) in second place and Hansa (Spain) in third.

On the water, Hansa is streaking ahead of the rest of the fleet with Orsa Maggiore (Italy) just five miles behind and Pamadica (Italy) and Viva close behind and clearly racing to be the first to cross the finish line.

Currently the fleet are experiencing north-north-easterly winds of around 10 knots which are helping them down towards Trapani. Rain is forecast in the area with the winds decreasing.
