Host Port Trainees
Quite simply, nothing beats the excitement of setting sail on board a beautiful Tall Ship. So, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to experience your very own life-changing adventure under sail.
There are lots of ways you can get involved. We’ve got heaps of great fundraising ideas that you can use to get started, and we can recommend some fantastic bursaries that could help you out. We’re also excited to announce that some of the ports taking part in our Tall Ships Races and Regattas are involved with an incredible “host port trainee” scheme.
Check out our latest and upcoming events.
The host port trainee scheme helps young people who live in, or around, a port hosting an event. It provides an opportunity to be funded, or part funded. Usually, you’ll join a leg of the race that sails into, or out of, the host port.
Are you aged 15-25? Do you live in a city that’s going to host a Tall Ships Race or Regatta in the next few years? If so, you may be able to apply to join a participating vessel.
As a host port trainee, you’ll experience the thrill of sailing in a Tall Ships Race or Regatta. But that’s not all – you’ll also enjoy the shore-side festivities, including the Crew Parade, crew sports, Prize-Giving Ceremony, and crew party.
Participating cities will organise an application and selection process for host port trainees, well in advance of the event arriving in the city. If you’re successful, you’ll be assigned to a vessel and you’ll receive financial help to fund your voyage. A host port sometimes provides training before your voyage, and kit to wear.
To find out more about the host port trainee opportunities in your city, please visit the specific host port page you are interested in. Here you will find links to your local event’s website. Where possible, you should sign up to receive updates and information about how to apply.
If you’d like help finding and booking your adventure – we’re here to help you every step of the way. Even if you haven’t quite decided on what you want to do, and where you want to go, we can guide you through the process. From finding an event and ships that’s right for you, to contacting a vessel, or finding out more about funding options.
