Posted on: 06.08.22

As The Tall Ships Races 2022 continued in Aalborg, international friendship and understanding came into focus as thousands of visitors continued to enjoy the event…

The third day in port saw Aalborg explode into a vibrant and bustling settling for the Tall Ships fleet as thousands of spectators flocked to catch the fleet up close. Over the first two days of celebrations, over 300,000 visitors have enjoyed the celebrations, and even more are expected today, which will see Denmark’s largest ever fireworks display close the event.

Shabab Oman II Celebrate Friendship Trophy

During the final prize giving ceremony the most prestigious award of The Tall Ships Races, the Friendship Trophy was awarded to Shabab Oman II (Oman). This principal award at the end of each race series epitomises the objective of the races and is awarded to the vessel which has done most to help further international understanding and friendship during the races.

Throughout this year’s series, the crew of Shabab Oman II (Oman) have reflected the true spirit of The Tall Ships Races – international friendship and understanding – and received recognition of this as they won the award, based on the votes of all Captains and crew. Today they were formally presented with the 2022 Friendship Flag and trophy by Race Chair, Magda Makowska, and The Tall Ships Races 2022 Race Committee.

Highlights from the Crew Parade

Before the final Prize Giving Ceremony yesterday, the diverse and international group of trainees took part in a spectacular Crew Parade through the centre of Aalborg along a 2.5km route. Throughout the parade, the crews of the Tall Ships fleet gave onlookers a vibrant and dazzling display of energy and vibrancy that has been a hallmark of 2022’s race series.
