Following a challenging race from Liverpool, UK, to Dublin, Ireland, the provisional results of the first race of the Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta 2018 are in…
As predicted following the Captian’s Briefing in Liverpool, the unique Tidal Gate at the top of the Isle of Man proved to be a challenging passage to navigate for some of the Tall Ships Fleet. Ultimately, it was the modern rigged vessels that found themselves more suited to the conditions as Sir Stelios (UK) raced into an early lead and took Line Honours off the coast of Ireland.
Provisional results have given Maybe (UK) a first place on corrected time. The Race Committee do not expect the provisional results to change following Race 1, but will be awaiting the Race Declaration Forms to be submitted in Dublin before confirming the final results.
Here’s what Race Chairman, Paul Bishop, had to say about how the race developed.
“The wind conditions have been far from ideal throughout the first race of the regatta, but most of the fleet seems to have had a good challenging race and the results seem to reflect those vessels that made good tactical decisions at the key stages.”
Race Chairman, Paul Bishop, Sail Training International
