Race Report 11 : First Finisher off Algarve Coast

August 2, 2016

Fast Class D vessel Tomidi (Belgium) was first to cross the

finish line yesterday (Monday 1 August) in Race Three of The Tall Ships Races

2016.

Tomidi crossed yesterday evening at 19:43:00 just minutes ahead of Spaniel (Latvia)

to gain line honours after a long tacking duel off the Algarve coast.

Class C vessels have put in a magnificent performance with Hosanna (France)

first overall in the provisional results on corrected time and Black

Diamond of Durham (UK) second overall.

Many more vessels crossed the finish line today off Ponta

de Sagres – a promontory located in

the south west Algarve region of

southern Portugal. Only 4 km to

the west and 3 km to the north lies Cape St.Vincent (Cabo

de Sí£o Vicente), which is usually taken as the south western most tip of Europe.

The official time limit, which was due to come into force at 20:00

UTC/GMT (Tuesday 2 August) was brought forward by four hours to 16:00 UTC/GMT

(Tuesday 2 August) as the winds had become completely calm in some areas.
